Some places stay with you forever
Himachal Pradesh is a state in north India in the lap of the Himalayas from which it gets its name. Himachal is made of two Sanskrit words – hima (snow) and acal (slopes). This photo from Kalpa depicts this wonderfully. I have very fond memories of this cold winter morning photo taken from the balcony of my hotel room in The Grand Shangri-la.
I am an assistant director in the Indian film industry and work with different directors. I was visiting Kalpa for the shooting of the film “Sanam Re” during the peak of winters in January and the temperature was well below zero degrees celsius. Leaving the cozy comfort of the warm bed to work outdoors for long hours in those extreme cold conditions was challenging, but this awesome view was worth waking up to each morning.
This quick photo was taken on the last day of the shoot after we had packed our bags to check-out from our hotel rooms early in the morning and I wanted to get an eyeful of this view of the Kinnaur Kailash range of mountains one last time before I left the hotel. The sun was about to rise and light up the valley covered in snow. Looking at this photo brings back all the emotions and feelings that ran through me that morning and makes me miss being there.
Himachal Pradesh is closest to paradise on earth and I had the best time of my life there. One must visit Himachal for an experience of a lifetime surrounded by the snow-capped mountains. We had driven from Shimla to Kalpa and I highly recommend the same if one wishes to be close to nature. Himachal Pradesh is indeed INCREDIBLE.
